Annotated Bibliography Purpose:

This assignment’s goals are for students to 1) choose a subtopic in American popular culture that interests them and learn about it, 2) get accustomed to the online library’s resources, and 3) gain some information literacy skills.

The creation of an annotated bibliography table by students will be based on a topic in American popular culture that interests them. The bibliography must include a minimum of 3 sources that have undergone peer review and 4 sources that are widely used or accessible online.

1) Name the American Popular Culture subtopic you decided to research for this assignment. (Sport and pop culture, for instance)
2) List the search phrases you used (e.g., “sport,” “sociology,” or “popular culture”).
3) A table with seven annotations
(See below for information on what should be in each entry.) a) Annotated entries in the table for a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed articles. b) Annotated entries in the table for a minimum of 4 well-known and/or open-web sources.

Each source item should be in table format (complete instructions are in the folder for homework assignments) and contain the information below:

1) The source’s name
2) A complete source reference in APA format
3) A review of the source, including if it was a website, blog, peer-reviewed publication, etc.
4) A brief explanation of the source’s applicability to your particular interest subtopic and your decision to use it.
5) A succinct explanation of the source research topic, conclusions, important details, etc.
6) Assessment of the source’s strengths in relation to your particular subtopic of interest (note: if the source is not at all useful, it is not a good source and should not be included).
7) Assess the source’s shortcomings in terms of how helpful it was in addressing your particular interest in a subtopic.
8) Comparative analysis contrast and compare how one source addresses your subtopic of interest to another source (note: no source should be utilized in this part more than twice).

This may depend on the methodology employed, sample size, hypothesis, conclusions, methods of measurement, etc. If you evaluate Source 2 in relation to Source 1, then you should evaluate Source 2 in relation to a different source than Source 1. Remember that every analysis should be able to answer your research question.
