1- Classmate discussion
In this week’s discussion (WK1_2) the task is, to address the following questions: (a) What did the assessment and completion of the PhD Premise Template and review of the Discussion Rubric tell me about my understanding of and familiarity with research methods, research designs, and the Walden dissertation process?; (b) What are your key related strengths and weaknesses?; (c) Based upon the content of the Discussion Rubric, what key elements of the research process might you be challenged by?; (d) Looking specifically at the Problem Statement I wrote in the Premise Template and the Discussion Rubric, self-assess the quality of my Premise Statement; (e) How can the Discussion Rubric assist me in building upon your strengths and addressing your weaknesses?
To A, the assessment of the PhD Premise Template and reviewing of the Discussion Rubric made me aware of the differentiation between three type of research method: (a) a quantitative approach; (b) a qualitative approach; and (c) a mixed method approach, with a qualitative or quantitative domination (Walden University, 2016). And, the research designs can be differentiated in: (a) confirmatory, for which hypotheses are tested and (b) exploratory, to generate new hypotheses or theories and many other designs (please also see Walden University, 2016). For the Walden dissertation process, it seems relevant to select a research method and a research design, to determine what data is need, what analysis is to be applied and so forth.
To B, my key related strength and weaknesses are as followed. I see my strength in a good understanding of statistics. However, my weaknesses are that I could further advance my skills. Therefore, I could focus a quantitative or qualitative approach in my research.
To C, one of the key elements of the research process I might be challenged by could be the data collection phase. The data collection could become costly when collecting the data. For example, if I want to use daily returns from stock market data, then I might have to purchase this information from data provider firms. Therefore, further insight could be relevant, if members of Walden could provide support or ideas during this process.
To D, the quality of my premise statement could be improved, if more research would be conducted on the specific topic. A broad and narrow perspective could be given, to derive the problems for management form this.
To E, essentially, the discussion rubric can assist me in building upon strength and addressing weaknesses, through its conceptual approach. Through this and the support or additional resources, a self reflection can occur and more competences can be gained.

2- Classmate discussion
I would first like to state for the record that if I had not watched the video in this week’s resources my score may have been much worse. Answering 58 out of 77 questions correct wasn’t too bad considering my preference for answer D. Understanding that developing a prospectus is necessary in obtaining a chair was a theme of the video in this week’s resources (Laureate Education, 2011). Thankfully a few of the questions were pertaining to the that topic. The majority of the questions I missed involved the topics of constructivism and similar topics. I have realistic views. I don’t know where that fits in but I am going to say somewhere around the 58-59 out 77 answered correct on this test.
My weaknesses are understanding different scholarly views that are used in research. I was told early on within my PhD program that due to my background in creative writing that I may fail. While I am understating what I was told the message was clear, my creativity and “writing for the reader” was not welcome in PhD studies. Two years later and I am still here. The funny thing is that my next professor loved how I wrote and encouraged me to write for the reader. I am not here to appease everyone but are willing to accept different points of views. At the end of the day I want to learn from those who have completed the journey already.

Premise: Analysis of Research methods and Research Designs
Conducting a research project is an exclusive feature of completing the doctoral degree. In this discussion, the statement of the problem is “to analyze the research methods and research designs used in the course”. The discussion highlighted the various methods and designs for conduction the particular research project. Research methods help the students to solve the problems, related to the course and subject. There are some key elements of the research process. This research will fill the gap in understanding by focusing on the research methods and designs. This information will help in various academic programs to successfully complete the research project and course. There are various methods and designs, which can be used for the discussion.
Approach for the study
In this project, the study will use various qualitative and quantitative methods for the research. The primarily methods, which are used in this, are quantitative methods. The researcher used the descriptive research design to describe the relationships among the samples. This type of research design has fundamental statistical procedures. Furthermore, the experimental research design is used in, because this research design has the most control. This allows the researchers to observe and explain the differences among various groups of samples. As research methods, the students can use the survey analysis and document analysis. It includes the interview to the persons, who have completed their course.
The researchers have the key strengths, related to the methods. These methods are beneficial for the research. Researchers are experienced in using these methods. The weaknesses of the methods are that the persons, who are surveyed or interviewed, they can give the wrong views about the research problem. The given discussion rubric will assist in understanding the step by step analysis of the methods and research designs. Rubric will make easy to analyze the problem statement.
