Competency
Demonstrate principles of professional identity and professionalism for the nurse within the context of regulatory and practice standards.

Scenario:
You are assigned to discuss your professional identity with your peers on the unit during a meeting and have decided to present the attributes using an infographic. The goal is to encourage all nurses to examine attributes and identify their professional identity to improve professionalism in the healthcare setting. As a nurse leader, you want your infographic to include the attributes that have guided your growth within the profession. As a leader of the unit, you work to grow the nurses on the unit and want to encourage them to identify their professional identity as the leaders to focus on succession planning. Your goal is to develop your infographic and share with other nurses to encourage them to examine the attributes to grow within the profession.

Instructions;
Create an infographic that includes the attributes you believe support your professional identity. Include the following:
1. Identify 10 attributes that form your professional identity based on professional standards.
2. Reflect on why each of the attributes were selected for your professional identity.
3. Determine the attributes that are important for nurse leaders.
4. Identify how diversity and teamwork plays a role in developing your professional identity.
5. Provide stated ideas with professional language and attribution for credible sources with correct APA citation, spelling, and grammar.

The purpose of this assignment is to explore career paths in the Social Service field.  The job announcements will expose you to the vocabulary of the industry, point out education and experience requirements, and give you an idea concerning salary offerings.  From these job announcements many students have set up informational interviews, found internships, and jobs.  The announcements can be for your dream job or what you hope for within the next few months or years.

Case Study #3_10
A 67-year-old man presents to your office with worsening cough, sputum
production, and shortness of breath. He has been a cigarette smoker for the past 50
years, smoking approximately 1 pack a day. He has a chronic AM cough productive
of some yellow sputum but generally feels okay during the day. He was in his usual
state of health until two weeks ago when he developed a cold. Since then, he has had
a hacking cough and increased thick sputum production. He also has had difficulty
walking more than a block without stopping due to shortness of breath. Physical
examination reveals prolonged expiration, audible wheezing, and diffuse rhonchi
throughout both lung fields. Chest x-ray shows hyperinflation of both lungs with a
flattened diaphragm.
Questions:
1. What are the two major clinical syndromes that are classified as chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease? How do they differ?
2. Of the two syndromes above, which is predominant in this patient? What is the
epidemiology and predisposing factors for this condition?
