Critically discuss the role of the consultant in fostering effective organisational cultures
• You may focus the assignment on a study of literature. And you may also choose to bring in examples, experiences and insights from work settings that you are familiar with.
• Your writing should show evidence of the themes of the module, and should take a critical stance. Re-familiarise yourself with the learning outcomes of the module.
• When offering ideas and concepts you should support these with relevant evidence from the literature. Do not just rely on core literature. You are expected to explore the wider reading list, and the also to go beyond set readings.

The module provides an introduction to consultancy approaches, from a depth psychology perspective. Participants will study approaches to observing organisational process, the role and stance of the consultant, models of organisational change, interpersonal dynamics in teams, approaches to relational data collection, a variety of consultancy models informed by gestalt, complexity and psychodynamic perspectives and the process of negotiating, contracting and concluding consultancy assignments.
a) To equip participants with a critical understanding of the nature and design of consultancy engagements
b) To develop participants understanding of a range of depth psychology models of organisational change processes,
c) To encourage critical dialogue and debate on the consultancy process
d) To develop participants’ appreciation of the consultancy role and stance
e) To develop the employability of participants, through an increased repertoire of tools to engage with organisations;
f) To equip students with a range of competencies with which to carry out professional consultancy engagements in the private and public sectors.
On completion of the module participants should be able to
a) Demonstrate a critical understanding of the nature of consultancy engagements
b) Apply this understanding in designing consultancy projects
c) Demonstrate a critical understanding of a range of depth psychology models of organisational change
d) Debate the respective merits of these models, in relation to a variety or organisational contexts
e) Engage in critical dialogue and debate on the consultancy process
f) Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of the consultancy role and stance.
g) Apply the learning from this module , in role, as a consultant.
