Order Specifications
This presentation is due in week 3 (the presentation week), and the following information was gathered from the organizer for this week:
Emergency Incident Management System for Public Health

1. Describe the organizational structure used by a municipal, county, or state public health department to provide effective services during crisis operations.
2. Give a brief overview of the health and medical incident management system.
3. Define “functional incident management system” and describe how it differs from a conventional ICS framework.

Now, on to the presentation itself:
1. PowerPoint: MaHIM appears sophisticated, yet in terms of design, it is similar to the typical ICS matrix. Command, Operations, Logistics, Planning, and Administration/Finance are the other four sectors. The system is not, however, a set of guidelines for designating people to carry out certain activities. Instead, it is a map that groups such duties into functional sectors and serves to remind incident management of all the tasks that must be completed during a complex health emergency. Read the Public Health ICS paper as well as MaHIM. Create at least 25 PowerPoint slides outlining the following topics: (1) the distinction between MaHIM and the public health ICS; (2) the key functional subgroups found within the sector to which you were assigned; and (3) crucial actions to be taken within the first 24 hours of an incident from the public health perspective, such as a category 5 hurricane in Miami, a terrorist bombing on the New York City subway; a significant earthquake in a city in northern California; a large explosion at a chemical factory; or Y. Not fire-rescue incident types, but public health emergencies should be used to define your response.
