The final paper must be organized in the following sections. Introduction. Describe what the paper is going to be about, and specify what is the right that you picked (1p approx) Historical origin of rights. In this section, you must describe how two classic (Cicero, Aquinas, or Grotius) and two of the modern philosophers (Hobbes, Locke, or Rousseau), introduced the idea of rights. This section, therefore, has two subsections, one for the Classic Perspective and one for the Modern one you choose to describe. Use the first and second draft that you wrote for this course making the changes required to respond to the comments I made (4 pages approx) Challenges to rights. In this section, you must describe your favorite right (i.e. life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, marriage, employment…). You may choose a human right or an environmental or animal right, a universal right or a right granted to a particular group. Explain why you think that right is important. Finally, describe some problems with that right. Check the list of declarations of rights in the syllabus. For problematizing rights, use your own ideas and at least one of the papers we read by the following authors: Bentham, Hart, Cranston or Feinberg (3 pages approx). Conclusion Describe what you learned about rights by writing this paper, and what you think could be a solution for the problem or problems with rights that you have identified.
