DRILLING OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

Assignment 2: for Drilling Operations Management

due on December 5, 2015.
Name = Student ID Number: 1. Barite can be swapped out for galena (lead sulfide) when it comes to weighing materials. Galena has a specific gravity of 6.8. Your team encountered a gas kick with an intensity of 3 ppg while drilling an exploration well at a depth of 13,000 feet. At the moment, there was 12 ppg mud in the hole. A 20 bbl pit gain was used to seal up the well. The mud system holds 2,500 bbls in total, and after the kick, the tanks are full.
Before beginning to add galena, you decided to dump some mud to raise the mud weight to 15 ppg. Remember that as the kick circulates out of the hole, it will grow. The annulus has a 0.1 bbl/ft capacity. Make all necessary assumptions and use the driller’s procedure. fifty points
(1) How much mud should be added to bbls at the very least before adding galena to prevent loss of galena from tank overflow?
(2) How many tons of galena must be added?
(3) Calculate the cost of galena using the market value.
2. The drill string contains a float valve. Please detail the process you would use to locate the real SIDPP. Include a drawing with your answer. fifty points
3. A well is drilled at a 12,200-foot vertical depth. When the well starts to flow, 12 ppg mud is being cycled at a rate of 9 bbls/min. There is a 15 bbl pit gain over 5 minutes. The drill pipe pressure stabilizes at 400 psi as the well is sealed off. The casing pressure at that point is 550 psi. Outside of the 5-inch OD drill pipe, the annular capacity is 0.0775 bbls/ft, and outside of the 600 feet of 3-inch ID drill collars, it is 0.035 bbls/ft. The ID of the drill pipe is 4.276 inches. Additionally, the annular capacity within the casing is 0.0775 bbls/ft.
fifty points
(1) Assuming the kick entered the annulus as a single slug, what is the density of the kick material in ppg?
(2) If the kick was mixed with the mud poured during the detection period, what is the density of the kick material in ppg?
(3) Assuming the driller’s method is utilized, what is the pressure in psi at the top of the kick zone at 4,000 feet of casing depth? Utilize the kick density determined in the previous problem (2).
(4) Assuming the driller’s approach is utilized, what is the casing pressure in psi at the surface when the top of the kick zone arrives?
(5) Assuming that the engineer’s methods are applied, what is the pressure in psi at the casing depth of 4,000 ft when the top of the kick zone reaches there?
4. Because the marine riser cannot withstand enough pressure, the choke line is employed when circulating a kick out of the hole in floating drilling. The choke line may have an excessive pressure reduction as a result, though. It is not unusual to employ both the choke and the kill lines in parallel for rotating the kick out in order to lessen this pressure loss.
The 4-inch ID choke line was being employed, and the total frictional pressure decrease in the choke line was 1,000 psi when the A+ Drilling Co. Rig #11 was handling this kind of kick.
Through the 3-inch ID kill line, some of the flow was redirected. When flow occurred up both lines at once, what was the new pressure drop? The pump rate remained constant. fifty points
