**THERE ARE 2 TASKS FOR THIS ASSESSMENT BELOW**

Rationale

(gathering information and testing to find what ails the organisation, department, or work unit), so that your treatment (intervention) is the most appropriate.

Diagnostic models provide a systematic “checklist” of issues from different organisational angles. This can help determine least obvious causes of problems, or the full range of issues that should be tackled.

Task 1

You are required to nominate which diagnostic tool you would like to learn more about. A small descriptor of each model is available to guide your selection. you have to select two (2) of the top three models and this will be used to diagnose one of the four case studies.

Models:

A.

Burke-Litwin model: understanding change by examining transformational and transactional sources of change

B.
McKinsey 7S framework: understanding change by examining complementarities between soft and hard elements within the organisation

C.
Galbraith’s Star Model: based on fit between five components of organizational design

Choose “Galbraith’s Star Model” to be the best one to apply to the selected case study.

Task 2

one focuses on one diagnostic model; the second focuses on the second diagnostic model; then apply the best model from the two reviewed to the case study you selected in Assessment 1. So in summary, firstly research your selected diagnostic models and provide some understanding of the model’s application in different contexts (avoid description and focus more on evaluating the research). Secondly, apply the best model = Galbraith’s Star Model to the selected case study which can be viewed online at:

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/stressbuster/

You will have to select one of four organisations:

Pls choose ‘Swan Care’ organisation, and dont wry for the “group work” cuz i hav to do this individully)

Each is relatively brief (15 mins approximately) and there are pdf files of the case notes that can also assist you. In applying the model you will be identifying the areas that need attention, ie is this an area of weaknesses, which would benefit from an intervention?

Rationale

The use of a diagnostic tool or method enables you to determine what is wrong with the organisation (gathering information and testing to find what ails the organisation, department, or work unit), so that your treatment (intervention) is the most appropriate.

Diagnostic models provide a systematic “checklist” of issues from different organisational angles. This can help determine least obvious causes of problems, or the full range of issues that should be tackled.
