Adolescence is an essential phase of life that brings a lot of transition and various biological changes in the puberty stage. As such, various policies and effective programs have been implemented to address different adolescence health issues. Some of these policies and programs include School-based health care services and the prevention of alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco use. Another program is the teen pregnancy prevention among several others. The Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) has been established under the Department of Health and Human Services. This office works towards the great health and productivity of the adolescents. It achieves this by focusing on the teenager’s mental health, pregnancy prevention, and drug-use prevention.

The school-based health care is designed to get rid of disparities in the access to health care among adolescents and children. It involves collaboration between the school and community health organization who offer their expertise on a wide range of health issues affecting adolescents in a setting known as School-based health centers (SBHCs). The OAH also has the Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) program. The TPP is an evidence-based program that works by funding different organizations which work to prevent teen pregnancies across the country. This program targets ages 10-19. It was established in 2010 and funds various grants such as those who prevent teen pregnancy through building the capacity of the youth-serving organizations, use of technology, and other innovative approaches (OAH, 2017). Furthermore, the OAH also has a drug prevention program for drugs such as tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana. For instance, in the case of tobacco, the office recommends measures such as brief counseling, increasing price of tobacco, and restricting minor’s access to tobacco.
