History of Our Time’s “The Port Huron Statement”

In November 2019, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced a change in the US position on Israeli settlements in the West Bank as explained in this BBC article: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-50468025 (Links to an external site.) What is the change in position? Why are the settlements seen by many as illegal under international law? How will the change in US position affect the Palestinian-Israeli conflict? Use the course readings and research the controversy about the settlements. Answer the above question in an essay of at least 300 words but no more than 1000 words. Your essay has a clear introduction with thesis statement, supports its ideas with evidence, and ends with a conclusion that summarizes your argument. Cite your sources in Chicago Notes and Bibliography style and write in standard academic writing style (and thus not using the first person “I” or “we” or second person “you”). Put your name at the beginning of your essay. Answer all parts of the question in well-developed paragraphs (not bulleted list) within the word limits specified (300 to 1000). Use a standard 12-pt font such as Calibri or Arial or Times New Roman. Double-space the essay. Write in standard academic writing style (and thus not using the first person “I” or “we” or second person “you”). For help with the thesis statement and academic writing style, refer to the Writing Guides Module and to two items there: Thesis Statement and Essays for History. Cite a source if you quote from it and/or use information from it. Cite sources in Chicago Notes and Bibliography style with footnotes (or endnotes) in the essay and a References/Bibliography section at the end of the essay. Save your essay as a Microsoft Word (doc or docx) or Rich Text Format (RTF) file.
