For my final project, I will evaluate the International Court of Justice (ICJ). I have decided on this organization after a lot of consideration and conducting the elimination process. The most favorable organization has to fulfill some criteria, among them being my personal interest. I am interested in evaluating how law and justice are conducted all over the world, and therefore it has triggered me to choose the firm. I have also considered the resources that I have, and I am confident that the International Court of Justice will be the preferable organization to evaluate. Considering the evaluation time, I settled on the International Court of Justice, as I believe take lesser time to evaluate, bearing in mind the limited time I have. In terms of data availability, there is a lot of data and materials readily available to help in collecting information. Having some knowledge about justice and law, I am convinced that I could enlighten my knowledge by choosing the ICJ.
According to Singh (1989), the International Court of Justice, also known as the World Court, is the prime judicial section of the United Nations (UN).
The mission of the ICJ is to ensure that international law is utilized and implemented effectively through international and national procedures to protect the most vulnerable when it comes to human rights and humanitarian law. The ICJ also promote and expand the rule of law by settling disputes between states and spearheading legal advice internationally as authorized by the UN. It is a source of international laws. The ICJ acts to ensure that judges, lawyers, and prosecutors observe high ethical standards and professional integrity, remain independent, are objectiveand free to practice their craft. The ICJ further the discernment that the Rule of Law demands that states, under the principle of separation of powers, create executive, judicial and legislative institutions and adopts measures to respect and protect the human rights (“Vision, mission and statutes”, 2020).
I choose the ICJ because of the accessibility of the information on it. Current information and also past data regarding its operation and functions are readily available from books, constitution, articles, journals, and live televised hearings. It will also be time-saving to evaluate as compared to other organizations in that, as said earlier, you don’t have to be physically present to get information. You can get first-hand information through other primary or secondary sources, therefore, saving on time. I am also interested in law and justice, and therefore it will be for my advantage to research the International Court of Justice. I will be able to expand my knowledge as I get deeper into the study and am assured of good results and findings because I will be doing what I like (Posner & De Figueiredo, 2005).
Generally, being an organization headed by the United Nations, ICJ covers major disputes among many states under the UN, and it will, therefore, provide a wide range of information for my study. I will be able to evaluate different cases from different states, and I am convinced that this will significantly help me understand law and justice.
