  1. What I learned during this activity

During this activity, I have learned that there are a genotype and phenotype for each trait that everyone exhibits. I have also understood the relationship between a genotype and a phenotype, whereby the phenotype is the observable characteristic. Also that people possess two alleles, one from each parent. It is also clear that alleles can either be dominant or recessive. The phenotype of a recessive allele is only exhibited when two recessive genes combine. Finally, I have learned that the combination of alleles occurs at random and is therefore not predictable.

  1. Did I find anything surprising?

The thing that I found most surprising is that certain traits that may be considered simple are passed down from the parents. Such traits are chin shape, dimples, freckles, and even eyelashes. The fact that every trait that I possess including eye size came from my parents is quite interesting. It appears one can get a full idea of how a future baby will look just by carefully scrutinizing every trait of the spouse and themselves.

  1. Was it useful to complete this activity to understand how inheritance works?

Very useful: I now understand the process of inheritance better. This activity proves interactive and informative at the same time.

 

 

  1. Did I enjoy completing this activity?

It was delightful as it combines both fun and learning at the same time. The tossing of coins to reveal what the various genotypes of the offspring made it even more interesting. It felt like actually bringing two people together with different traits to create an offspring and determining the various traits which the offspring would possess.
