Despite being well-prepared, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about their policy issue, most nurses find it awkward to contact lawmakers. Nurses frequently drastically underestimate their influence and fail to recognize the openness and desire of politicians to hear their opinions.
Create a statement or suggestion that is concise and clear after choosing your healthcare policy topic and doing extensive study on it. Student Y illustrates and describes how catastrophic and frequent these events are, especially among youths (this lends believability) using his experiences from the emergency room. He makes reference to his own adolescent children and his volunteer work at a teen center during his presentation, demonstrating his personal commitment and participation. His presentation highlights how other parts of the country have passed legislation and the results of such legislation, and his research material is clear and simple to understand. Additionally, he mentions in his presentation materials that his nursing association, the Emergency Nurses Association, is intensifying its lobbying efforts on behalf of this problem at the state and federal levels, which strengthens and professionalizes his argument. After making a crystal-clear suggestion, he solicits comments and ideas to help him in his ongoing lobbying work.
