Purpose
This is an individual assessment task in which students will examine critical issues related to business and management contexts. The purpose of the task is to assist you in gaining a greater understanding of the internal contextual factors that impact a business and the way that decisions are made in an organization.
Before starting this assessment, please read the marking criteria (in a separate document) and refer to other resources provided on the Moodle site for this course.
Description
As Masters students, you are required to engage in research as per the Australian Quality Framework (AQF) guidelines. Two specific requirements need to be considered. 1. Students need to demonstrate a body of knowledge that includes an understanding of recent developments in a discipline and/or area of professional practice; and 2. Students must demonstrate knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to a field of work and/or learning.
This unit has a number of required weekly readings in terms of academic texts, journals, and business publications that represent the appropriate body of knowledge and recent developments referred to by the AQF. In order to demonstrate the ability to engage in appropriate research, students should read and utilize these texts, journals, and publications. You must choose a group that will enable you to demonstrate your comprehension of the ideas and theories covered in topics 1 through 5 of this course. Make sure you can obtain (and properly cite) a sufficient amount of material about the organization you choose because it will also be the focus of study for assessment work 2.
The next step is to write an essay demonstrating your knowledge of and comprehension of the theories and concepts covered in this course with respect to the organization you have selected. The course coordinator has created a video that provides a more thorough explanation of the task’s criteria as well as various other helpful assignment-related advice. The marking guidelines are available separately on the Moodie website, but in brief, your assessment will be graded on how well it handles the following categories:
By using the ideas and concepts covered in topics 1 through 5, students should be able to define essential words and demonstrate their understanding of the material.
• The ability to communicate the key local and global contextual elements that influence corporate structures and strategy
• Using at least 12–16 scholarly sources to show the depth and caliber of your research
• correctly citing academic sources in the text using the APA referencing style.
These are the conditions that are included as a minimum in the marking criteria. Students should be aware that normally only the minimum pass grade will be given for satisfactorily completing the minimum requirements.
