Background Cookies Limited produces a wide range of delicious cookie goods. It only has one store right now, and it has a desktop PC with a local transaction management system. That is, during the sales, all transaction histories are logged.
The company chose to grow its business online to increase sales and accessibility as a result of the e-business boom. As a result, it intends to create an online retail platform.
Converting the company’s operations to be data-driven and customer-focused is one of its strategic goals. The concept of recommendation systems particularly interests business owners. For the system, they have two primary requirements:
1. Clients are involved in the creation of new cookie or flavor combinations.
2. Using customer profiles and past purchases, the system can locate and suggest various cookie kinds to users.
A membership system that enables users to rate and review cookie goods must be implemented in order to meet these standards. The ability to trace each registered member’s purchasing history is very helpful.
Cookies Limited has recently hired you as a new data manager to help them achieve their strategic goals of a data-driven and customer-centric business model. To better support the business and boost sales, you must plan a data-driven information system that is future-proof. Future demands for the expansion of data volume and computing power should be taken into account in the design.
A report preparation request has been made to you. Executive businesspeople who have a wealth of business experience but no ICT expertise are your target market. They are interested in learning how new technologies could help their company. Please be aware that the traditional report format, which includes an executive summary, must be followed.
The following subjects should be covered in the report’s main body:
1. Data Storage and Gathering
• Storage system (what are the needs for storage and how to meet them); Data collection system (what type of data should be collected and how);
Consumer-centric product design (what it is and how to accomplish it) 2. Data in Action
• A recommendation system’s definition and implementation
3. Business continuity How can websites survive a power loss or other catastrophes?
Keep in mind that the description of the actual system architecture is not required; instead, you are asked to concentrate on how technologies are used in the proposed plan. The next two hints can help you create a better report:
• Try to use your own words to describe the technology so that common audiences may grasp them.
• Describe the technologies in the context of Cookies Limited so that corporate management will find them useful and compelling.
Report Format Your report should be no longer than 3,000 words and no fewer than 1,500 words in length.
The report must be formatted in accordance with the following standards:
Text for paragraph: 12 points of single-line spacing in Calibri
• Arial in a readable type size for headings
• All margins are 2.5 cm wide.
Report title in the header; page number (including “page”) in the footer.
Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, iv) are used for page numbering up to and including the Table of Contents; conventional numerals (1, 2, 3, 4) are used to begin counting from the first page following the Table of Contents.
• Heading Page: There cannot be any headers or footers in it. Don’t mention your student ID, course number, or course name; only list your name as the report’s author.
• A single Microsoft Word document (2007, 2010, 2013, or Office 365) must be used to construct the report. Other formats are not acceptable and will result in grade reductions.
The report must follow a formal business report format. For more information on report structures, see the following references:
2014’s Communication Skills Handbook, 4th Ed., Summers, Smith, and Wiley, Australia
References The report must include at least five relevant references, and these references must be cited using the Harvard style. Keep in mind that every reference must come from a journal article, a conference paper, a technical report, or a respected authority on the subject. Never cite Wikipedia as a source. Marks will be deducted if unqualified references are used.
Submission
The completed assignment must be sent in to Blackboard Task 2 by Friday, Week 12 at 11:59 p.m.
The marking sheet, which is displayed on the last page, will be used to determine how well the assignment was performed. Late submissions will incur penalties in accordance with the guidelines in the course description. Please be aware that the number of days late includes both Saturday and Sunday.
Return of Assignments and Release of Grades
Three weeks after the due date, assignment grades will be made accessible on the course website. At this point, a digital assignment marking sheet will be accessible.
The grade for an assignment that is being investigated for possible plagiarism or collusion will be withheld until the inquiry is over.
