The teacher must provide differentiated instruction to cater to specific needs and adopt different teaching methods when delivering a lesson to the class. Providing education that is appropriate to students intelligence types increases students academic achievements (Bas, 2016).
Today’s classrooms are filled with diversity. There are many students with different interests, beliefs, and learning styles. Recognizing the way each student learns, helps the teacher with preparing information that the child can retain. Dr. Gardner believes “intelligences are distinct from one another and that people have different types of intelligences, which they often exhibit in very different ways” (Newman, 2013, Chapter 8.1, para.2) His theory suggest that individuals have specific intelligences and learn in different ways. Due to this, you cannot teach all students on the same level. The teacher must provide differentiated instruction to cater to specific needs and adopt different teaching methods when delivering a lesson to the class. Providing education that is appropriate to students’ intelligence types increases students’ academic achievements (Bas, 2016).While it is good to know how your students learn, they still need to be taught in different ways. Recognizing their strengths and weaknesses will allow the teacher to tackle the weaknesses so that they become stronger and build up on their strengths. “Each student possesses all eight intelligences”, therefore, each intelligence should be incorporated into lessons instead of just focusing on one (Newman, 2013, chapter 8.2, para2). Providing different learning styles will keep the students motivated and engaged in learning
This survey has been created to give educators a better insight on the eight multiple intelligences and see how you learn compared to your students. It tests one’s knowledge of Howard Gardner’s theory and the different learning styles. Please click the link below to access the multiple intelligences survey.
