Using Sociological Approach: This approach focuses on man’s relationship to others in society, politics, religion, and business.

For your final paper, you will look at themes in the two Steinbeck readings (see above) and in the film, “The Pearl”. One of the main themes in all of his work is the American Dream and the nature of happiness. Identify an example in each work and argue how the example showcases one of the themes. You must support your argument with evidence. Some questions to consider:

A. What is the relationship between the characters and their society? B. Does the story address societal issues, such as race, gender, and class?
