A thorough on boarding process is a valuable tool as it sets the expectations for the new employee and also the company. How many of us have felt “lost” when we started a new job? Spending the first week asking questions as situations arise is not very productive.
When a company has an on-boarding process it eliminates all the questions and provides answers to the most basic questions concerning schedule expectancies and even where the bathrooms are. There are so many subjects it could encompass that just a simple “new hire training” could not as the “new hire training” is only the big picture, it would not deal with individual teams whereas a thorough on-boarding process would.
According to the text book, “a comprehensive on-boarding process begins with recruitment and extends well beyond entry into the organization”. This is a valuable, and true statement in order to select and train the correct employee according to the company’s expectations.
