Local trauma systems and trauma centers play an important role in saving lives during disasters and public health emergencies. However, based on recent estimates there are significant gaps in the national state of hospital and trauma preparedness.

Identify the structure and essential components of the trauma system available to your community.

4. Based on your assessment, estimate the level of disaster preparedness and rate the likelihood of your local trauma system capability to manage a major incident such as the Boston
Marathon, the terror attacks of 9/11, or an accidental explosion of a local oil refinery facility. Also, identify the closet available assets to your community that could aid in the case of such a disaster.
