GEOL 1330

                                    Name:

Global Warming

  1. (20 points) Go to the online energy balance model available at: http://www.uta.edu/faculty/awinguth/edu_outreach/studentProject/index.html. It calculates Earth’s average temperature in dependence of solar irradiance, Earth’s reflectivity (albedo, a), and Earth’s emissivity. With incoming energy being balanced by outgoing energy, a solar irradiance of 1365 Wm-2, and the global albedo set to 30% (=0.3), the model calculates an average global temperature of 14.69°C (=”Year 0”, please disregard the other years).  In the lower right, you can change the values for albedo, irradiance, and emissivity.

Sunspot activity might change the irradiance by about 0.1 %.  Assuming that the given irradiance of 1365 Wm-2 is a mean value, by how much does global temperature change if you increase the irradiance by 0.05 % or decrease it by 0.05 %? Please show which values you are using in the model.

By how much does global temperature change if the albedo decreases from 30% to 20% (using 1365 Wm-2 for solar irradiance)?

  1. (10 points) Electromagnetic radiation (“light”) travels at a speed of ~3 x 108 m s-1. The distance from Sun to Earth is ~150 x 106 km. How long does radiation from the Sun take to reach Earth?  Show your calculation.

  1. (20 points) Draw schematically two curves into the figure below, one for the zonally averaged incoming visible short wave (QSW) radiation from the sun (solid curve) and one for the zonally averaged outgoing long-wave infrared (QLW) radiation (dashed curve) from the Earth’s surface depending on latitude. Label the two curves. Point out areas of radiative surplus (+) and deficit (-) on the Earth’s surface. (Hint: You may want to consult Fig. 4.2 in your textbook).

  1. (20 points) Draw the major wind directions for the northern and southern hemisphere in the figure below and label the wind belts.

  1. (10 points) Explain where and how deep-water forms in the ocean.

  1. (20 points) The figure below shows average annual ocean salinity values. Explain why salinity in the polar regions is lower than that of the subtropical regions around 30 degrees latitude. How do you expect salinity values for polar regions to change during winter and during summer?

Teamwork in the lab is encouraged.  However, each student must provide his/her own answer.  Copying of answers results in a grade of zero for all students involved.

Advanced Pharmacology

Patient HM has a history of atrial fibrillation and a transient ischemic attack (TIA). The patient has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and ischemic heart disease. Drugs currently prescribed include the following:

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

Select one the following factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior factors.

  • Explain how the factor you selected might influence the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in the patient from the case study you were assigned.
  • Describe how changes in the processes might impact the patient’s recommended drug therapy. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Explain how you might improve the patient’s drug therapy plan and explain why you would make these recommended improvements.

Reminder: The College of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references.

Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) Assignment.

This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment.

This assignment is to be completed in a group, which will be assigned by your instructor. The presentation will be submitted and graded as a group assignment.

Nursing theories are tested and systematic ways to implement nursing practice. Select a nursing theory and its conceptual model. Prepare a 10-15 slide PowerPoint in which you describe the nursing theory and its conceptual model and demonstrate its application in nursing practice. Include the following:

1. Present an overview of the nursing theory. Provide evidence that demonstrates support for the model’s efficacy in nursing practice. Explain how the theory proves the conceptual model.

2. Refer to the resource, “Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations,” located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment in the appropriate style.

3. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

4. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

5. You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

the first bullet #1 is my own to do .The 2nd and 3rd are for the other group members. We choice Dorothy Orem’s self care theory. So you will put in the contents in the slides .We’ve agreed to share the slides into 5 each for each students.

FINALPROJECT

Women Studies Research Paper

Types of questions to answer when writing your topic paper:

  1. You want to answer questions about prevalence, frequency, and duration (e.g. How often does the problem occur? How long has this been going on? Has the problem worsened over time? etc). Make sure to include statistics here
  2. Describe how individuals in this country and various cultures within this country conceptualize and think about this topic(s)?
  3. What are the current laws and punishments that impact your topic(s) in this country?
  4. How is this topic(s) relevant to issues regarding intersectionality/intersecting identities in this country? Choose two identities. For example: in what ways is this topic relevant and impacted by race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, class, religion, etc in this country?
  5. List and describe at least two different systems, institutions, or processes that contribute to this issue/ problem (for example capitalism, globalization, culture, poverty, politics, technology, military presence/war, history of colonialism, etc)
  6. Identify a non-profit organization or non-governmental organization that is addressing your topic(s) in this country. What are their goals/missions? How successful have they been?
  7. What else can be done to address the topic(s) you have highlighted?
  1. Minimum 7 pages (including references and cover page)
  2. Use white 8 ½  x 11” paper.
  3. Make 1-inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides
  4. The first word in every paragraph should be indented one-half inch.
  5. APA recommends using Times New Roman font, size 12.
  6. Double-space the entire research paper
  7. Include a page header known as the “running head” at the top of every page. (To make this process easier, set your word processor to automatically add these components onto each page)
    1. To create the running head/page header, insert page numbers justified to the right-hand side of the paper (do not put p. or pg. in front of page numbers)
    2. Then type “TITLE OF YOUR PAPER” justified to the left using all capital letters
    3. If your title is long, this running head title should be a shortened version of the title of your entire paper

Paper Rubric Guidelines:

  1. (30%) LENGTH. Each answer should be approximately 300 words in length. For example, if your Discussion 2 assignment requires you to answer 2 discussion questions, your entry for that week should be 600 words in length total (at least 300 words for each of the 2 questions for that week)
  2. (50%) COMPREHENSION. Demonstrate an understanding and application of the course readings and any other outside reading you may choose to use to answer the question.
  3. (20%) REFERENCES. You MUST cite using at least 1 citation per question: • All discussion postings are expected to integrate information from at least one of the readings, class materials, and/or from an outside empirical or reputable news source. You should cite both within the text and provide a full reference at the bottom of your post.

The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde By Robert Louis Stevenson

Read and/or listen to The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and write about what you know about the setting of the story. Where are we? When does the story take place? What other background information is given in this passage?

Then, establish the points of view of the story. Who is telling this story? What person is it told in: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd? What are the knowledge levels of the narrators: objective, limited, or omniscient? Are the narrators reliable? How do we know? What are the tones of the narrators? What mood does this convey to the reader?

Then, re-examine Chapter 10 of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. What do you think is the theme or universal message of the novel? How does the setting or the point of view play a role in understanding this theme?

Begin your post by properly quoting and citing the passages. Then, write a 500 word discussion on the information conveyed in the passages you selected, pointing to specific words in the passage.  Connect the two passages as much as you can. End your post with a full MLA citation of the text.
