It took three pages for the physician to return the call. Looking back, I could have called a RAPID RESONSE, maybe this maybe could have prevented this incident. I was an inexperienced nurse. I questioned whether this could have had a different outcome if the critical care team and physician this could have assessed the patient. Choose scenario 1, 2, or 3 in the article. High risk medications are medications such as insulin, digoxin and chemotherapy for a reason. Without the proper checks and balances an error can easily happen and this is why another nurse should verify your dose.
