I found the video by Shojaee, and an article by Sumeet is incredibly informative for me as I am looking forward to learning more about Project Management. “Scrum” is one of the popular terminologies I hear often while in PM class but, I never had an opportunity to look into this depth. Just like Shojaee said, it is a bombardment of information about the whole scrum in 10 minutes. Shojaee’s video is more focused on the scrum, and how it is implemented towards any project to reach a successful conclusion. He has put more light on the scrum master, who is one of the most important parts of the team. Ten minutes of interesting animation and visuals made this video more engaging to watch. For sure he had not talked only about scrum the whole time but has described all the steps and process that comes along. Backlogs or wish list is described as user stories that were put on the chart. Later, he added the importance of backlogs follow up and they are prioritized. Short duration milestones, Sprints are divided to tackle a team so it is easier to manage a chunk of the project at a time.

Sumeet’s article, “The definition of Done” is a self-explanatory topic he discusses. Through his article, he is trying to clear the confusion on what DoD is in project management. He further simplified the definition as it is a critical technique of agile scrum that serves as the shared understating of the existing product increment levels and the preparedness for release. Done simply means releasable.

I think the implementation of agile methodology, especially scrum in various project management frameworks is the valuable content I would take. Scrum is popular because of its simplicity and high-performance ability. Meanwhile, managing a team, team focus, team discussion about work progress are highly emphasized in both articles so these are other valuable key concepts for me.

Even though both articles are related to Agile Project Management, the topic they have has its importance. In the video, Shojaee has explained scrum, and its every step in great detail. Not only that he explained how we can tackle the product backlogs, the proper use of burndown charts and its usefulness, and the importance of everyday standup meetings. Where Sumeet’s article only focused on one area defining done which however is equally as important as other agile methodologies.

Topic: agile scrum

Scrum is an agile framework for completing innovative projects. Scrum originally was formalized for software development projects, but works well for any complex, innovative or new product development scope of work. The possibilities are endless. The Scrum framework is deceptively simple. Scrum helps in significant rise in productivity and reduction in time to benefits as compared to the traditional waterfall processes.

Scrum processes helps the companies to easily adapt to requirements that are changing rapidly and create a product that matches the business objectives that are emerging fast.

An Agile Scrum process provides benefits to the company by helping it in improving the quality of their products, adapting to the rapid changing requirements, and also creating and providing the estimates quickly. Moreover, it helps the company to have a complete control on the schedule and state of the project. PMBOK,2017)

The video by Shojaee, and the article has provided information about agile Scrum in vividly which help me know about it more clearly. Scrum in 10 minutes was more related towards the Scrum, and second article was related to definition of done and its main components and meaning towards scrum projects. The key concepts and the contents discussed are about the product Backlog where Product owner is one who works to decide which product backlog is feasible to represent the stakeholder’s demand. The role of the product owner is to set the direction. The role of the Scrum Master is just like the Project Manager. User stories are part of release backlog which help estimate time to complete small tasks and to know what total time would be to deliver the estimates. The estimates are divided in to chunk of hours. Sprint is small milestone in achieving tasks of the Project. It allows Estimates to be easily manageable. The sprint shows the great indicator whether the release backlog is on time or not. To monitor the progress of sprint the Burnout chart gives clear idea that how much work is done and how much is remaining and slope in burnout chart represents burnout velocity, in knowing estimated completion of the project helps is adjusting of scheduling or re-aligning the target dates to complete the project on time . Daily Scrum meeting help team members to discuss the problems and hiccups of the project so that team members may help and facilitate process towards achieving goals. Sprint Retrospective Meeting is point where team discuss what went incorrect and areas where improvement is needed.

The On time tool worked effectively in helping to know what are the product backlogs, which team member working on which assignment and also about burnout chart which helps finding out the progress of the project , helps Scrum Master, management, executives and all stakeholders knowing overall picture of project.

The article of DONE Understanding of the Definition of Done have understanding that Done means work is completed & product is now releasable. The second component is related to quality which is mainly related to coding, testing or product with no defects are non- functional requirements which is related availability, performance, maintenance, reliability, or compliance related. Third is with reference to concept of undone in related to DoD is work is not completed yet and hence cannot be released.

Most valuable take away was to learn and see things from broader perspective to achieve goals for the project. Success of the project lies in every single team member to every small task has meaningful and significant contribution.
