Mini-Paper Guidelines

Over the course of the semester, you are required to write two (2) mini-papers.

Purpose of this assignment: This assignment will allow you to analyze one facility through many facets. You will select one type of long term care facility. Please select from one of the following: skilled nursing facility, assisted living facility, adult day care, home health care, home care or congregate living. Please do not use hospitals, pharmacists, primary care practices, or any other type of medical office practice for this assignment. This will be used throughout your mini papers. Overall, you will define the setting, gain an understanding of the management/leadership challenges, and finally understand how regulation influences an organization.

Your mini-papers will need to follow these guidelines- failure to comply will result in a reduction in your score:

¢ Must be 2-3 pages in length plus reference page. Do not include a cover page.
¢ Heading in your paper should include only your name, mini paper# (single spaced in the upper right hand corner)
¢ Your paper needs to be your original work. It should be on the assigned topic. Along with this, your paper needs to be an individual effort. Plagiarism is unethical, unacceptable, and may result in a failing grade for this course.
1. Plagiarism and Cheating of any kind on an examination, quiz, or assignment will result at least in œ0 points awarded for that assignment (and may, depending on the severity of the case, lead to an œF for the entire course) and may be subject to appropriate referral to the Office of Student Conduct for further action. See the UCF Golden Rule for further information. I will assume for this course that you will adhere to the academic creed of this University and will maintain the highest standards of academic integrity. In other words, don™t cheat by giving answers to others or taking them from anyone else. I will also adhere to the highest standards of academic integrity, so please do not ask me to change (or expect me to change) your grade illegitimately or to bend or break rules for one person that will not apply to everyone.
2. A turnitin.com report of 25% or more will receive an automatic zero. No more than 10% of your paper should be direct quotes, per the rubric. All direct quotes should receive proper APA citation. Copying diagrams, charts, and figures are not acceptable and will result in a zero for your assignment. You may reference the results and use the findings in your paper (with appropriate citation).
3. All paper should use proper APA citation-no other forms of citation are acceptable. Failure to cite works and ideas that is not considered general knowledge by the community at large (not just this class) is considered plagiarism. Self-plagiarism (copying your own work) or digital plagiarism (copying from the internet) is also unacceptable. If it has been in a prior paper, (in this class or another class), it should not appear again.

In this course we will utilize turnitin.com, an automated system which instructors can use to quickly and easily compare each student™s assignment with billions of web sites, as well as an enormous database of student papers that grows with each submission. After the assignment is processed, as an instructor I receive a report from turnitin.com that states if and how another author™s work was used in the assignment.

¢ Please explain the issue using sources and facts, and provide a thorough explanation of how you feel about it (your opinion). It is expected that you will use sources beyond your own opinion, these sources (including the text) should be referenced appropriately within your response and a list of references should be supplied at the end of your document. Only peer reviewed, scholarly articles are acceptable for this submission, do not use websites. You will loose points if scholarly works are not cited or inappropriate materials are referenced. Please visit the library for information of, peer reviewed articles.

¢ If you do not submit it to the correct location, or you submit it after the deadline, you will not receive credit. If I cannot open the file due to your file formatting mistake your paper will not be graded and you will receive no credit. Assignments are not accepted through email.

¢ Mini-papers should be spell checked, grammar checked, and proofread prior to submission. Read your paper out loud; this will help you catch any mistakes that are overlooked by the other methods (missing words, wrong words, etc.).

¢ Technical requirements: Papers should be double-spaced 2 inches spaced with 1-inch margins all around (top, bottom, left, right) and 12pt font. Times New Roman Font. Your name and the mini paper number should appear in the header of the document. ALL PAPERS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED USING MICROSOFT WORD.

¢ Please ensure your understanding of the grading rubric.

In addition to your assigned readings, you need to review the literature to understand how these issues have been examined and discussed by researchers and policy makers. This paper should be 2-3 pages, excluding your references. Your paper should be outlined in the following manner with clearly marked headings.
Your paper should read as an essay with headings (use headings as described, for example, Introduction, definition, strength, weakness and conclusion)
